Put Some Sparkle in Your Day

Ponte wants you to shine, and with three totally different sparklers on our current wine list, it’s easier than ever to find your favorite.  Think sparkling wine is only for special occasions?  Puh-lease.  We beg to differ.  Wine with bubbles has never been more food-friendly, due to a rise of sparklers with more fruit character and less dryness.  And just think of the way you feel when you hold a glass of champagne or sparkling wine in your hand: bright, elegant, sophisticated and ready to…well…shine!  Currently, Ponte has a white, rose and even a red sparkling wine available, all with their own personality and all ready to drink.  Make sure they are nice and chilled (1 hour in the fridge or 30 minutes in an ice bucket) before serving with your favorite late-summer dishes.

2012 Moscato

Slightly sweet with flavors of apricot, nectarines and a floral aroma, Moscato is and always has been a hit with Wine Club Members and guests alike.  It’s a refreshing sparkling wine that works as both an aperitif and an accompaniment to a number of light dishes and desserts.  Sip with smoked salmon, salted nuts with rosemary, pastas with cream sauce, white pizzas, spicy Asian cuisine, grilled apple and chicken sausages, potato chips, popcorn and citrus-based desserts. And, wow! Does it make some excellent mimosas!

2011 Rose Spumante

Flavors of tropical pineapple and ripe strawberries highlight this pink sparkling wine.  Rose Spumante shines best with simpler flavors, like spaghetti with olive oil, garlic and heirloom cherry tomatoes, and creamy cheeses such as Brie and Camembert.  If serving with dessert, go for goblets of ripe, juicy berries and a dollop of cream, chocolate covered strawberries, and clafouti with any ripe summer fruit like cherries or peaches.

2011 Vernaccia Nera

The newest sparkling wine to join our list is – wait for it – red!  Unusual, mysterious and utterly delicious, Vernaccia Nera has aromas and flavors of cassis, blueberries and toasty vanilla.  Its bold character make it a perfect wine to serve with more complex dishes like Italian foods, barbeque ribs and brisket, and salty appetizers like chunks of Parmigiano Reggiano and charcuterie platters.  Chill it slightly before serving – about 30 minutes in the fridge should do it.
