Sawtooth Vineyard – the breadbasket for the Idaho wine industry – has been the traditional source for the Sullivans’ Rhône program from the Gem State. (They also make wines from Washington’s Columbia Valley). This is a delicious, food-friendly example of a cool-climate Syrah, opening with aromas of Marionberry, red currant, saddle leather and coffee – a sign of the 20 months in French oak barrels. The palate brings more purple fruit flavors of President plum, blackberry and blueberry, backed by juicy acidity, Earl Grey tea tannin and a dash of white pepper. It’s a shining example by Wine Press Northwest magazine’s Idaho Winery of the Year.
