Tantalus Wines 2013 Old Vines Riesling, Okanagan Valley, $30

tantalus-wines-old-vines-riesling-2013-bottleIts roots stretch back to 1978, and New Zealand native/Aussie-trained David Peterson’s scintillating work with these old vines in the hills just east of Kelowna, British Columbia, have turned this Riesling into one of Canada’s most famous wines. International acclaim continues to grow for Tantalus because of this Riesling, which opens with a nose of Granny Smith apple, starfruit, orange, candy corn and the evolution of petrol – toast as some Germans refer to it. Inside, there’s an explosion of mouthfilling lime juice, Ambrosia apple and orange flavors. A pinch of mint and bone-dry succulent acidity will serve it well with seafood, fresh greens and summertime salads. It’s on the go-to list for those attending the grand tasting of the Riesling Rendezvous on Sunday, July 17 at Chateau Ste. Michelle in Woodinville.
