Some of the most exciting new work in the Pacific Northwest wine industry is being produced by Ryan Huett, who was inspired to move to Oregon after witnessing the introduction of viticulture near his eco-resort in Costa Rica. A product of Chemeketa Community College’s Northwest Wine Studies Center, Huett proclaims Raylee as his “unicorn” and a “Pinot to the people.” Its $15 price tag is certainly affordable in a world beset by pricey Pinot Noir. Its aromas promise quality with hints of lush cherries, spice and cedar. In the mouth, there are more cherries, raspberries and red currant, backed by alluring acidity. He earned gold medals at the 2017 Oregon Wine Competition both for his eponymous brand and this second label. Earlier this month, the Raylee also merited a gold medal at the Great Northwest Invitational.
